I wrote this song a long time ago, I think in 2003. It's ridiculously basic, but I've always come back to it, so I guess it hits the spot somehow...I keep getting reminded of it again and again.
lyrics
BETTER OFF ALONE
Hey I'm still here/You act surprised/I still walk this earth/Maybe in spite of you/I'm in my place/A better place/Or maybe just different/ But different feels just fine/And I've got my problems/But at least they're my problems/And the life I'm living is my own/I think I'm better off alone/The endless lies/The crying eyes/The myriad nights/When you had me hypnotized/Long-winded notes and scratchy throats/And this lingering feeling/That you're stringing me right along/And I don't want to break you/'Cause I didn't make you/And you didn't teach me what I know/I think I'm better off alone/So many people can bring you down/But then there are those that can make you strong/So how do I find them?/and where do I sign when/I find someone with a little soul?/I think I'm better off alone/So in the end I need a friend/But how can I trust it When I know the way it ends?/I'll keep on trying/I'll make a sign/And in the end/Well you know I'll be just fine/'Cause there's something inside me/That doesn't need aligning/Or anyone else to keep it whole/I think I'm better off alone.
